Eugene and I often talk about what it means to be a second generation Asian American. But, at least in my world, I don’t often hear directly from the first generation—the wave of immigrants that came to the United States in large numbers starting in the late 1960s—about their own experiences. Because of language barriers, cultural barriers, and an overall generation gap, the voices of the immigrant generation are often silenced. For our 50th episode of the podcast, we have the pleasure of speaking with our dad, Dr. Chong Hwan Chang, who shares the story of his journey to the United States, why he made the unusual decision to return to Korea after more than thirty years, his perspective on what it means to be Asian American (and which one of us is his favorite, haha). Thanks dad for coming on the show! And thank you for listening!
